Defense authorities of South Korea and the United States are scheduled to hold next week a series of annual meetings.
Seoul's defense ministry said Minister Suh Wook will travel to Washington for the 52nd Security Consultative Meeting on Wednesday.
Suh will sit down with his American counterpart, Defense Secretary Mark Esper, to assess the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and discuss the early transfer of wartime operational control of South Korean troops from the U.S. to Seoul.
A day earlier on Tuesday, officials from the Joint Chiefs of Staff from the two countries will open the Military Committee Meeting via videoconference where similar issues will be covered.
The sessions could also focus on North Korea as they will be held after Pyongyang's Party Foundation Day on Saturday when a large military parade is expected.
