The Ministry of Health and Welfare says the country will have to wait until next week to see whether there is another surge in coronavirus infections attributed to the recent Chuseok and Hangeul Day holidays.
Ministry spokesman Son Young-rae told reporters Thursday that there does not seem to be a significant spread of COVID-19 like what was seen during holiday weekends in May and August.
He said overall, infections are on a downward trend, even though sporadic clusters are being reported in various regions, including the latest large outbreak reported at a convalescent hospital in Busan.
But he also noted the two-week incubation period for COVID-19.
Son also addressed the issue of rising imported cases and said the government is considering further strengthening entry measures.
