Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun speaks on COVID-19 measures during a government meeting in Sejong on Oct. 21, 2020.
The government will launch on Thursday a two-week inspection into quarantine efforts at convalescent hospitals nationwide.
The move comes amid a rise in coronavirus cluster infections at medical care facilities, including a hospital for seniors in Busan where 81 cases have been reported.
In a Central Disaster Management Headquarters meeting Wednesday, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said the targeted checks were necessary and that over 8,000 convalescent hospitals would be evaluated.
Earlier, the government began diagnostic testing for some 160,000 workers and inpatients at such facilities in the greater Seoul area.
