Defense Minister Suh Wook says South Korea is capable of deterring North Korean threats.
Suh said during a parliamentary hearing on Friday that based on the country's combined defense posture with the United States, they are able respond to the regime, despite the North's recent unveiling of new weapons.
Earlier this month, North Korea showcased a new, longer-range intercontinental ballistic missile in a military parade.
Analysts have said the missile may be able to carry multiple warheads and reach most of the U.S. mainland.
