South Korea has reported 363 new cases of COVID-19, hovering above 300 for a third consecutive day and pushing the country's overall total to 30,017.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on Friday confirmed 320 local infections 43 imported cases from the previous day.

There were also three more virus-related fatalities, bringing the death toll to 501.

Amid rising fears of another wave of the pandemic, social distancing rules have been upgraded to Level 1.5 in the greater Seoul area and the southern city of Gwangju for two weeks.

Meanwhile, Suncheon in South Jeolla Province has begun enforcing Level 2 regulations as a precautionary move, becoming the first in the country to follow stricter distancing under the current five-level system.

The total number of people released from quarantine in the country after making full recoveries stood at 26,263, up 165 from Thursday, with 3,253 people in isolation for COVID-19 treatment.
