South Korea has reported 438 new cases of COVID-19 and three additional deaths.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on Monday said 414 local infections and 24 imported cases were recorded over the last 24 hours.

The daily tally stayed in the 400 range for a second straight day, following 450 cases on Sunday, apparently due to less testing over the weekend.

Despite mounting concerns over another wave of infections, health authorities have decided to maintain Level 2 social distancing in the greater Seoul area for another week, and raise the antivirus alert system to Level 1.5 in all other areas for two weeks starting Tuesday.

But more stringent quarantine measures will be implemented at high-risk indoor facilities in the capital, such as saunas and fitness centers, for the next week.

The country has reported 34,201 cases overall and 526 deaths due to COVID-19.

The total recovery figure reached 27,653, up 111 from the previous day.
