Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and new U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken Wednesday have agreed to work on bolstering the Seoul-Washington alliance.
The held their first phone call on Wednesday, Korea time, hours after Blinken was sworn into office.
According to the foreign ministry, the two top diplomats talked about the alliance as well as regional and global issues for about 30 minutes.
During the talks, Kang welcomed Blinken's expertise on Korean Peninsula matters while Blinken expressed hope that the two countries will strengthen their relationship under the Biden administration.
The officials also pledged to work closely together on denuclearizing North Korea and the global fight to end the coronavirus pandemic.
