The Ministry of Foreign Affairs say it will consult with the United Nations, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the World Health Organization on how to best respond to Japan's decision to release nuclear wastewater into the sea.

In a report to the parliamentary foreign affairs committee Tuesday, the ministry said it plans to deal with the issue through multiple diplomatic channels.

The ministry made clear that active efforts will also be made to scientifically and objectively verify Japan's water discharge process.

In addition, the ministry said it will also be reviewing a judicial response.

President Moon Jae-in earlier ordered his aides to raise the issue with the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

Japan said it plans to begin releasing over one million tons of treated radioactive water from the Fukushima power plant in about two years.
