The U.S. State Department says the government is currently focused on vaccinating Americans against COVID-19, but may be able to help other countries out in the future.
Department spokesperson Ned Price addressed the issue Wednesday during a press briefing when asked about comments made by South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong regarding a Seoul-Washington "vaccine swap" arrangement.
Chung told a parliamentary session this week that through the potential deal, the U.S. would provide South Korea with vaccines from its stockpile, which South Korea would later pay back with vaccines.
The minister said he talked discussed the matter with U.S. special envoy for climate change John Kerry during his visit to Seoul last week.
Price reiterated the department's stance that it will not get into the details of "private, diplomatic communications," partly dismissing the possibility of such a provision, at least for now.
