The government is in the process of crafting more effective anti-coronavirus measures instead of considering raising social distancing levels across the country.
Health ministry spokesman Son Young-rae said Thursday that strengthening distancing rules could further increase the financial burden on small business owners amid the pandemic.
He did not disclose what the new measures could be.
Currently, the capital region and a few other areas are under Level 2 social distancing while the remainder of the country is at Level 1.5.
However, current restrictions are set to expire in 10 days on May 2.
The official noted that the current number of COVID-19 patients in serious to critical condition is significantly lower compared to last December at the height of the third wave of outbreaks, adding the recent resurgence in infections has yet to put a strain on the national medical system.
