South Korea has reported 525 new coronavirus cases and nine additional virus-related fatalities.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on Friday confirmed 509 new local infections and 16 imported cases from the last 24 hours, raising the cumulative total to 126,044.
The death toll jumped to 1,860.
Although the daily case tally dropped by 50 from the previous day, health authorities remain concerned over rising cluster infections and an increase in cases of more transmissible variants.
Fears of a fourth wave also continue to linger as people increase activities and gatherings this month, particularly around holidays, including Buddha's Birthday.
Level 2 social distancing rules in the capital region, Level 1.5 measures in most all other areas, and a ban on private gatherings of five or more people have been extended until May 23.
