The military has pledged to improve the quality of life for service members after coming under scrutiny for forcing soldiers to endure harsh quarantine conditions.
The defense ministry said Friday it will seek to raise the average daily meal cost for service members from 8,500 won to 10,500 won next year.
The military has faced a firestorm of criticism after some members raised complaints over their poor living conditions, such as meal quality and excessive COVID-19 quarantine rules during their isolation period at temporary facilities.
Upon returning from leave, all service members are required to quarantine and undergo a COVID-19 test as part of strict antivirus measures.
The military also said it plans to revise quarantine rules to allow service members to self-isolate in their own barrack, effective from next week.
