U.S. Forces Korea has offered to provide some of its COVID-19 vaccines to the South Korean government to help relieve the country's vaccine shortage.

Yonhap News reported Monday that according to government sources, USFK relayed its intention of providing around 13,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

In March, USFK began administering J&J's one-shot regimen to its members in addition to the Moderna vaccine, and so far around 70 percent of its service members have been vaccinated.

Korean defense and health authorities are said to be discussing the details.

If delivered, the vaccines are likely to be administered to civilians.
