South Korea reported 399 new coronavirus infections on Monday, the smallest daily caseload in more than two months.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency confirmed 360 local and 39 imported cases from the last 24 hours and three more virus-related fatalities.

The country has recorded 148,273 cases and 1,988 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

New cases were down sharply compared to Sunday's 452 and Saturday's 565 cases but were expected to rise from mid-week as more people get tested.

The last time the caseload was in the 300s was March 29, when 382 infections were recorded.

Health authorities have vowed to ramp up testing in order to reach the government's goal of vaccinating 14 million people by the end of this month in the quest to achieve herd immunity by November.

More than 11.8 million people have so far received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, accounting for 23 percent of the country's population.

The KDCA said 3 million people have been fully vaccinated.
