South Korea reported on Friday 507 new coronavirus cases and two more virus-related deaths.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 484 local infections and 23 imported cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

The total caseload rose to 150,238, with the death toll nearing 2,000.

While authorities continue to battle sporadic outbreaks in regions across the country, they are also accelerating the national vaccination campaign.

More than 14 million people, or about 28 percent of the population, have received their first shots of COVID-19 vaccines.

The KDCA said over 3.8 million adults have been fully vaccinated so far.

Vaccinations will expand to people in their 50s from late July, followed by those aged between 18 and 49 from mid-August.

The government is set to announce a revamped social distancing scheme that will take effect next month to accommodate the changing virus situation in the country.
