South Korea has confirmed its first two cases of the more transmissible Delta Plus variant of the novel coronavirus.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced Tuesday one of the Delta Plus cases is a man in his 40s who has never traveled overseas.

This subvariant, first detected in Europe, is related to the Delta variant that was first identified in India last year.

Studies have shown Delta Plus has a mutation that allows it to spread more easily, better attack the lungs and potentially evade vaccines.

It has reportedly been found in nearly a dozen countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

But only India has labeled Delta Plus a variant of concern.

Meanwhile, the Delta variant has spread to over 130 countries, according to the World Health Organization, with officials dangerous and the most transmissible SARS-CoV-2 virus to date.
