Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum has made another urgent for people to avoid traveling for the re remainder of the summer vacation season.
Kim made the request Tuesday during an interagency government meeting on the COVID-19 response, pointing to the continued spread of infections despite signs of a slowdown in the capital region.
Kim cited data that showed last Friday recorded the highest traffic volume ever for a vacation season, with more than 5.3 million cars hitting the roads.
He earnestly asked people to spend their time off resting, rather than gathering with others.
The prime minister also called on officials at nursing homes, detention centers, military bases and other facilities susceptible to group outbreaks to carry out preemptive coronavirus testing.
