More than 70 percent of South Koreans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine as of 5 p.m. Friday, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

That means more than 36 million people in the country have gotten at least one shot.

The goal was reached in less than seven months after the national vaccination campaign kicked off on February 26.

President Moon Jae-in praised the achievement.

He said the milestone came at an extraordinary speed and thanked the public and medical workers for their cooperation.

The KDCA said so far 21.8 million people have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
