South Korea reported 1,716 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said it confirmed 1,698 local transmissions and 18 imported cases in the last 24 hours, raising the cumulative total to 292,699.
The country also recorded eight additional coronavirus-related fatalities, pushing the death toll to 2,427.
The daily case count has dropped compared to the nearly 2,000 infections reported last week.
But the lower figure is due to less tests being carried out during the Chuseok holiday.
Health authorities have raised concerns over a possible spike in infections as many people moved around and traveled during the holiday when some social distancing measures were relaxed.
