Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum stressed on Friday the importance of following COVID-19 quarantine and social distancing measures through next week when the after effects of the Chuseok holiday will likely begin to show.
Kim made the remark at an interagency meeting on the country's response to the pandemic as the highest daily case count was recorded.
He said he was surprised at how much the virus has spread and called it very regrettable that authorities couldn’t prevent the sharp rise in infections.
The prime minister then called on the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to discuss and decide on shortening the interval between vaccine doses given that the supply has stabilized.
He urged people to get inoculated so that everyone could return to normal life soon.
