South Korea has reiterated its principled support for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Choi Yong-sam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relayed the government's hope that the event will be successful and contribute to peace and inter-Korean relations during a press briefing Tuesday.
The comments followed the U.S. announcement of its decision to boycott the Games diplomatically.
When asked about Washington's move, Choi refused to comment on a foreign country's own "diplomatic decision" but said Seoul was informed in advance.
He said no decision has been made yet on whether to send a South Korean government delegation to the Beijing Games in February, adding that they will be closely watching moves by other U.S. allies and partners.
