More than 4,000 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in South Korea, with imported cases hitting a fresh high amid the global surge of the fast-spreading Omicron variant.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said Friday it confirmed 4,133 local cases of transmission in the last 24 hours, including 409 infections brought in from overseas, marking a new all-time high.
The country also recorded 49 more COVID-related deaths.
Meanwhile, the number of criticially ill coronavirus patients in intensive care units nationwide stood at 659, down 42 from the previous day.
