The South Korean military is on edge over another possible outbreak of COVID-19 at a Navy anti-piracy unit operating in waters off Africa.
According to Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff, authorities are awaiting the results of PCR tests on all members of the Cheonghae unit after a sailor tested positive for the disease earlier in the week.
The sailor and all close contacts were separated and put in quarantine.
Officials said the entire contingent is fully vaccinated and recently received booster shots at sea.
In July 2021, the same unit was hit by a COVID outbreak.
At the time, 270 service members contracted the virus and the entire unit was airlifted back to South Korea.
