Students in the capital region will return to school for face-to-face classes next Monday amid a slowdown in new cases of COVID-19.
The education ministry announced the move Tuesday after a meeting with local superintendents.
Kindergartens, elementary and middle schools in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province as well as other parts of the country will still have to cap student attendance to one third capacity until October 11.
High schools will also continue to limit attendance to two thirds of their total capacity.
High school seniors, who have been going to school every day to prepare for exams, will be allowed to take classes both online and offline.
Education Minister Yoo Eun-hae said the national college entrance exam or Suneung will be held as planned on December 3.
