A number of civic groups are apparently pushing ahead with rallies and car parades in Seoul on National Foundation Day, despite calls by the government to withdraw their plans amid concerns they could exacerbate the coronavirus crisis.
According to local police, a car parade involving some 200 vehicles will be held Saturday afternoon from Yeouido to the Seocho area in southern Seoul.
Across town, more than 1,000 people are expected to gather at Gwanghwamun Square for a separate rally.
A police official said the events could also cause heavy traffic and recommended people use public transportation to avoid delays.
