Itaewon gears up for Halloween weekend.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to dispatch monitors to popular nightlife areas in the capital this week to check whether they are properly following coronavirus restrictions.
The move comes amid concerns of another wave of COVID-19 after the Halloween weekend.
From Thursday to Saturday, city officials will be sent every night to over 100 bars and clubs.
They will stay until as late as 3 a.m. to ensure people are getting their temperature checked, wearing masks, signing entry logs and following other virus curbs.
Violators could face a two-week business suspension.
The city said it will also set up quarantine checkpoints along main roads and alleys in the Itaewon area, similar to those installed across the city earlier this month to control rallies.
