Former SMEs Minister Park Young-sun has officially thrown her hat into the ring as a ruling party candidate for Seoul mayor.
Park, who also served four terms as a lawmaker, is up against Representative Woo Sang-ho to run on the Democratic Party's ticket.
She announced her bid during a livestreamed event held at the Korean Federation of SMEs in Yeouido on Tuesday, vowing to make the city safer, fairer and friendlier.
She also proclaimed a "great transformation" post-COVID-19.
Park said one of her visions is to divide the capital into 21 self-sufficient subunits to create a "compact city where everything is solved in 21 minutes."
She added that housing issues, low youth employment, low birthrates and falling profits of small business owners would be among her top priorities, if elected.
The Seoul mayor post has been vacant since July, following the death of Park Won-soon.
