Mobile coronavirus testing clinics were dispatched to schools in Incheon on Friday, offering easy screening for students and teachers.
The local education office said the free program will operate on a trial basis for two weeks.
Schools in the Bupyeong District, which has recently reported a rise in South African variant cases, were the first to benefit.
The mobile clinics may expand service to other areas following consultations with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
Similar initiatives were launched in Seoul and the southeastern city of Ulsan earlier this month.
