The National Human Rights Commission says the Seoul Metropolitan Government has failed to properly respond to homelessness in the capital during the coronavirus pandemic.

The commission said Wednesday that its review of related COVID-19 policies from December to January revealed the city was lacking in many areas.

It found that homeless people were not provided enough meals and medical treatment support.

It also pointed to delays in the transport of coronavirus infected homeless patients to hospitals and quarantine facilities.

In addition, it highlighted that overcrowding at shelters was an issue and added to health and safety risks.

The commission said it recommended to Mayor Oh Se-hoon that improvements be made.
