The Seoul Metropolitan Government says it is pushing to transform the Jamsu Bridge into a car-free space just for pedestrians.
The Jamsu Bridge, which forms the lower deck of the Banpo Bridge and lies just meters above the Han River, currently consists of two traffic lanes, a pedestrian walkway and a bike lane.
If the move is approved by the city council, the bridge will be transformed into a waterfront cultural and leisure space, according to the metropolitan government.
Officials said they also plan to install a new signal system on the Banpo Bridge, and adjust affected bus routes, in response to concerns about potential traffic delays that may be caused if Jamsu Bridge is closed off to vehicles.
