The Seoul Metropolitan Government says city officials will be on standby Tuesday as unionized subway workers are scheduled to go on strike.
The city on Monday announced emergency measures for the planned walkout, saying efforts will be made to minimize inconveniences to passengers and local residents.
Emergency measures include injecting extra personnel to ensure subway trains run smoothly, especially during the morning and evening commute.
Local buses will also run on shorter intervals, while more buses and taxis are put on the roads during rush hours.
Baek Ho, head of urban transport in Seoul, reassured residents the subway system will operate normally, but warned they could face future delays if the strike lasts for more than a week.
