Chinese students in South Korea
An increasing number of Chinese students enrolled at South Korean universities are delaying their return to the country ahead of the new semester due to coronavirus fears.
According to the Ministry of Education, out of the more than 1,300 Chinese students who were expected to arrive on Thursday, only 838 flew in, meaning 36 percent canceled their scheduled trips.
Similarly, on Monday, more than 960 students were expected but nearly 150 did not show.
Data from the justice ministry also indicates a slump in arrivals from Chinese nationals.
The number of Chinese travelers that entered on Wednesday was 1,404, down almost 93 percent from when the tally peaked at 18,743 on January 13.■
