S. Korea to recall two brands of cotton-based protective masks due to safety issues
South Korea is set to recall two brands of cotton-based protective masks due to safety issues amid soaring demand for protective and sanitary items.
The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards said on Wednesday that the masks in question failed to meet safety standards in chemical usages.
Details about the recall will be posted on the agency's website Thursday.
The government carried out investigations this month on 49 cotton masks being sold in domestic market as a rising number of people opted to purchase them as alternatives for disposable protective masks amid the new coronavirus outbreak.
Authorities plan to continue conducting investigations on the safety of protective masks.■
