A soldier from an Army base in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
According to defense ministry officials, the soldier was diagnosed with the disease Thursday, a day after returning from leave.
The soldier, who was visiting his home in Incheon, took a bus from Gyeyang in the port city to Dongsong in Cheorwon on Wednesday, and visited a PC room in the area before returning to base.
On his way to the barracks, he found out that his parents were being tested for COVID-19 and immediately got tested as well.
Other soldiers and military personnel that he came into contact with have been placed under quarantine.
The military has so far recorded a total of 53 virus cases and 39 recoveries.
