Jung Eun-kyeong, Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday said she expects the COVID-19 outbreak to worsen in the fall and requested more personnel and equipment in the ongoing fight against the virus.
Appearing on a local radio show guest hosted by Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, KCDC chief Jung Eun-kyeong stressed the need for the general public to stick to quarantine guidelines and more hospital beds to treat patients.
She told Mayor Park there are many aspects of the coronavirus that are still unknown, noting that asymptomatic cases are also a big problem.
On the use of the experimental COVID-19 medication remdesivir, she said it has already been administered to around nine patients in critical condition.
Jeong added the KCDC is in talks with its developer, the U.S.-based Gilead Sciences, to procure more doses.
