The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has expanded the size of its task force looking into defector groups accused of sending anti-North Korea leaflets across the border.
Police Commissioner Lee Yong-pyo on Monday revealed they are investigating four civic groups, including Fighters for a Free North Korea and Kuensaem.
Lee said his agency's international crime unit is involved in the case as the head of another group, Voice of the Martyrs Korea, is an American.
That group claimed to have floated large balloons filled with leaflets on two occasions in the past two weeks.
Lee said all four groups are accused of violating multiple laws, including one on inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation.
