Eating and drinking alcohol at beaches will soon be prohibited as part of efforts to block the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The oceans ministry on Wednesday said an administrative order will be issued in mid-July to restrict people from bringing food and alcoholic beverages to beaches at night.
There are growing concerns over the possibility of coronavirus infections spreading among small groups that gather along shores.
Under the order that covers 21 major beaches nationwide, including Haeundae and Gyeongpo beaches, no food or drinks will be allowed on the sand from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following day.
The ban is expected to will last through the end of the summer season.
Police in each region plan to crack down on violators, who could face fines of up to 3 million won.
