Traffic has begun to pile up on highways heading out of the Seoul metropolitan area as people make their way to their hometowns for the Chuseok holiday.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, some 480,000 vehicles were expected to leave the capital region Tuesday.
As of 6 p.m., the estimated drive time from Seoul to Busan stood at six and a half hours, from Seoul to Gangneung nearly three hours, to Gwangju five hours and 40 minutes and a little over five hours to reach Daegu.
Backups are likely to be the heaviest on roads leaving the greater Seoul area on Wednesday morning, while inbound traffic will be the worst on Saturday afternoon.
