An Army officer from a unit in Gyeonggi Province, near Seoul, has tested positive for COVID-19.
The defense ministry said Thursday that the officer stationed in Yangju was diagnosed with the disease the previous day.
Deputy spokesman Colonel Moon Hong-sik stressed the service member had not come into contact with others as he had been in self-isolation after the first case of infection was reported at his barracks on October 10.
This raises the total number of coronavirus cases reported in the South Korean military to 159.
All but 11 have made full recoveries.
