Record-breaking cold temperatures are being felt in regions across South Korea on Friday with frigid conditions forecast to continue through the weekend.
The mercury in Seoul dipped to minus 18.6 degrees Celsius in the morning, the lowest in 35 years and the second lowest ever, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.
The coldest reading on record for the capital was minus 19.2 degrees Celsius on January 5, 1986.
Cold wave advisories and warnings remain in effect in most parts with afternoon highs hovering below the freezing point.
Southern provinces and Jeju Island are still under heavy snow alerts.
The cold spell compounded by snow and ice has made road conditions dangerous -- drivers and pedestrians should take precautions.
The KMA says the weather will gradually warm up next week before returning to seasonal norms.
