All travelers from Brazil, including South Korean nationals, will be required to show a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival amid concerns over a new variant of the coronavirus spreading in the South American country.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced the measure Tuesday, one day after it confirmed the first case of the variant from Brazil.
From Monday, all travelers must submit papers showing a negative PCR test result taken within 24 hours of their arrival here.
Previously, the tests had to be taken within 72 hours of arrival.
The KDCA also decided to extend a ban on all U.K. flights by one more week until January 28.
A total of 18 COVID-19 variant cases have been reported in South Korea, including 15 from the U.K., two from South Africa and one from Brazil.
