Seoul and its surrounding areas will come under a cold wave advisory Thursday evening, as temperatures are forecast to drop following heavy snow.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said the advisory will take effect at 9 p.m. also covering 26 cities in Gyeonggi Province, including Suwon, Gimpo, Hanam, Yangpyeong and Gapyeong.

Advisories are issued when the morning low is expected to fall below minus 12 degrees Celsius for two straight days.

Freezing conditions are in store Friday.

Children, the elderly and those with respiratory issues are advised to avoid outdoor activities.

The KMA has projected the cold snap to last through early Saturday.
