The government says it will announce by Friday a restructured social distancing campaign and new quarantine measures in response to the coronavirus situation in the country.
Yoon Tae-ho, an official with the Central Disaster Management Headquarters, said the revised antivirus rules will take effect from next week.
Current Level 2 distancing in the greater Seoul area and Level 1.5 elsewhere are scheduled to expire on Sunday.
The government is expected to change the distancing scheme in a way that will lessen the burden on small businesses, which have been hit particularly hard by pandemic-related restrictions.
Authorities are also reportedly discussing potential modifications to the nationwide ban on private social gatherings of five or more people.
The measure was first introduced in the capital region in December in a bid to contain a third wave of infections.
