Four aftershocks have been detected off the coast of Heuksan Island in South Jeolla Province following Monday's 3.7 magnitude earthquake.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said the minor quakes hit early Tuesday in waters northwest of the island.
Officials explained that the area is prone to seismic activity, and that aftershocks are common after a larger jolt.
The KMA also said the shaking was unrelated to the 76 earthquakes that hit the region between April and June of last year.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage from the latest quakes.
