South Korea has extended its suspension of flights from the United Kingdom due to concerns over the spread of a more transmissible variant of the novel coronavirus.
Health authorities and the Korean Embassy in London confirmed Wednesday that the direct flight ban will stay in place for another two weeks until May 6.
Seoul temporarily stopped flights between London's Heathrow Airport and Incheon International Airport on December 23 to prevent the B.1.1.7 variant, first identified in Britain, from entering South Korea.

The measure has been extended several times since then, and was set to expire on Thursday.
South Korea has recorded a total of 388 U.K. variant case, most of them imported infections.
