The Busan Metropolitan Government will provide local residents financial support if they experience serious side effects after being administered a COVID-19 vaccine.
Earlier this week, health authorities said up to 10 million won would be given to those who suffer severe side effect after getting vaccinated, whether or not there was a causal link.
Vice Mayor Lee Byung-jin said Friday that up to 10 million won in additional support will be provided to cover medical treatment costs.
The funds will be available from Monday but could also be applied retroactively.
Lee urged everyone in the port city to get vaccinated to prevent spreading the coronavirus to loved ones.
