The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine rollout in South Korea began Thursday, starting with medical personnel at specialized hospitals under the age of 30.

The government's vaccination task force said medical and nursing students will also be eligible to get the vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical giant.

The country received its first shipment of 55,000 doses in early June under a contract that has secured enough supply to inoculate 20 million people.

The Moderna vaccine requires two doses that will be given four weeks apart, according to local officials.
