A suspect in the suicide death of an Air Force sexual harassment victim was found dead Sunday at a military detention facility.
According to the Center for Military Human Rights Korea, a nongovernmental organization, the senior master sergeant was discovered unconscious at 2:55 p.m. and transferred to a civilian hospital but later died.
The suspect was being held on charges of inflicting secondary harm and threatening retaliation against the master sergeant who took her own life in May, three months after she allegedly suffered sexual abuse by a colleague of the same rank.
The rights group on Monday blamed the Ministry of National Defense for poor supervision and claimed the suspect's death will hamper efforts to get to the bottom of the case ahead of the related trial set to being on August 6.
The ministry said authorities are looking into the exact cause of the suspect's death.
