Workers in South Korea are set to get three extra days off this year.
The Ministry of Personnel Management confirmed Tuesday that a revised bill on substitute holidays was approved at a Cabinet meeting earlier in the day.
It is expected take effect Wednesday, at the earliest, after President Moon Jae-in's approval.
The bill stipulates the first weekday after a public holiday that falls on either a Saturday or Sunday should be designated as an alternative holiday.
Once it takes effect, it will apply to the upcoming National Liberation Day on August 15, Foundation Day on October 3, and Hangeul Day on October 9, which fall on either a Saturday or Sunday.
The expansion to the alternative holiday system was initially promoted by the ruling Democratic Party as a way to reduce working hours and boost domestic consumption.
