Chuseok Day traffic is starting to build up on roads and expressways heading towards the capital region.
The Korea Expressway Corporation said drivers heading towards Seoul on Tuesday will likely hit major backups as many people will be returning from their hometowns, making trips to see relatives or visiting local cemeteries.
As of noon, the estimated drive time heading back to the capital was 8 hours and 40 minutes for drivers departing from Busan, 8 hours leaving from Gwangju, from Daegu 7 hours 40 minutes and from Gangneung 5 hours.
Traffic jams are expected to peak around 3 or 4 p.m. and ease up after midnight.
Vehicles heading out of Seoul are expected to experience the worst congestion around 3 p.m. with traffic to ease up around 8 p.m.
